About OpenMedia

OpenMedia are based in Auckland New Zealand, and formed in 2006 to focus on the growing convergence of Open Source and Media related technologies. From the large scale enterprise systems to digital TV set top boxes, your adsl model and mobile phone, Linux and Open Source have become a major part of the IT industry.

OpenMedia draws on the business experience of Cherie Carbines, and the technical background of Steven Ellis, as well as their shared passion for Linux and Open Source.

MythTVSteven Ellis had been developing a PVR product based on Myth TV since mid 2005, and OpenMedia launched myPVR in April 2006 at the Auckland Linux Users Group. Steven had spotted a niche in the market as OpenMedia was amongst the first in the world to produce an MythTV based consumer appliance. myPVR made a huge splash at the 2006 Big Boys Toys event in Auckland, and has been reviewed by a number of leading local and international publications including the NZ Herald, Tone and Linux Journal.

Over the last two years OpenMedia has provided consulting services to a number of large New Zealand companies in areas of Enterprise Architecture and Open Source Solutions. as well as participating in a number of international Open Source conferences and events in Australia and the US. Locally OpenMedia are members of NZOSS and InternetNZ.
